LG Electronics, a world leader in consumer electronics, launches its new curved, giant LED screen in Piccadilly Circus. The electronics manufacturer has committed to a seven-year presence at this globally recognised site, as it looks to further strengthen its brand profile in the UK. “The site, which overlooks Piccadilly from the top of Haymarket, will be seen by more than 1.1 million people who pass through Piccadilly Circus each week. Pedestrians in the vicinity of Piccadilly Circus will see that the screen has started counting down to launch, a countdown which started at 9:30 am on Saturday and which takes passers by up to the time the screen goes live; 9:30 pm on Tuesday 30th January.

LG Electronics, a worldwide technology leader in mobile communications, announced that its LG-KU250 and U250 handset, a sleek and slim 3G mobile phone, was selected this year for the GSM Association’s “3G for All” campaign by a consortium of the twelve largest mobile operators during 3GSM World Congress 2007 in Barcelona, Spain. The aim of the 3G for All project, sponsored by the GSM Association (GSMA), is to make third generation mobile networks and services available to a much wider user base. It does this by lowering costs for handset makers and their component suppliers by leveraging common requirements across operators and enabling economies of scale.

LG Electronics, a worldwide technology leader in mobile communications, demonstrated its LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology applied handset in cooperation with Nortel at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. LTE, one of the most advanced mobile communication technologies to date, is currently in the process of 3G technology standardization by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), and is expected to be applied to next generation handsets soon. The demonstration by LG and Nortel is especially meaningful in that it shows the commercial availability of Multi Input Multi Output (MIMO) - OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Modulation/Multiplexing) based LTE technology.

Skyworks Solutions, Inc., an innovator of high performance analog and mixed signal semiconductors enabling mobile connectivity, announced that LG is leveraging its Helios power transceiver, the highly integrated SKY74400, across its family of GPRS Chocolate phones launched in Europe and expanding to around the world later this year. Skyworks previously announced support for LG’s suite of CDMA Chocolate phones in April 2006.

According to recently released mobile phone market share data from Strategy Analytic’s Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, LG Electronics MobileComm, Inc. (LG Mobile Phones) has secured the number two ranking for sales of mobile phones in North America in 2005, selling just over 26 million handsets for the year. In addition to increasing shipment market share in the North America to 17% in all technologies for 2005, LG increased its dominance in the global handset market, once again securing the number one spot for global CDMA sales for the year. Global CDMA sales for LG were 30.4 million units vaulting LG to nearly 21% market share worldwide.
