Namco and Sprint announced the Arcade classic game Popeye for mobile phones. Popeye on mobile phone includes both the original arcade version of the game as well as an enhanced mode with bonus game play. Building on the action in the arcade mode, the enhanced mode features fresh new graphics, two brand new rounds (“A Dream Walking” round and “Spinach Run” bonus round), and additional characters, including cameos by Eugene the Jeep and Bernice the Whiffle Hen. Points earned throughout the game can be redeemed for downloadable Popeye comics on mobile phones.

Namco Networks, the leading publisher and developer of mobile games and entertainment for mass-market casual gamers, announced a series of Ms. PacMan mobile gaming tournament sponsored by Sprint. The tournament will be held at Namco Networks’ booth, #913 at the Entertainment for All Expo (E for All), the consumer entertainment and gaming show to be held in Los Angeles, Oct. 18-21.

Glu Mobile Inc., a leading global publisher of mobile games, announced that it is working with the McDonald’s Corporation, which serves over 26 million customers a day, to give away one million “instant win” game prizes of Monopoly games, under license to Glu and McDonald’s from HPG, the licensing division of Hasbro, Inc., on the mobile platform. Glu is working with McDonald’s and Hasbro to raise awareness of mobile games with this first-ever redeemable Monopoly mobile game prize for the Monopoly 2007 Game at McDonald’s. The Monopoly 2007 Game at McDonald’s will run in the United States from October 2 - October 29.

At the ‘WiMAX World USA 2007’ Conference and Expo, Posdata unveiled a hot, new gaming platform that will enable gaming enthusiasts to download games and access the Internet using high-speed Mobile WiMAX connections. The platform, named G100, is a specialized terminal for games that was developed by Posbro, a Mobile WiMAX device subsidiary of Posdata. It is the world’s first portable online gaming device and set to revolutionize the gaming distribution industry. The G100 will operate in its initial release at 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz bands according to Posdata.

At the Tokyo Game Show, Nokia and G-mode, leading casual games developer, announced that they are collaborating to bring more mobile multiplayer games to the global market. G-mode is developing Chess a Moment, an online and turn-based chess game, based on the Nokia SNAP Mobile platform. Players can compete in up to eight live games simultaneously, and have up to 30 hours to ponder their next move. Players can also review the move histories of their opponents at any time during a game. Consumers can expect to get their hands on G-mode's Chess a Moment in the fourth quarter of 2007.

Nokia announced that D3Publisher, a leading Japanese publisher of hit console and casual games, is using the SNAP Mobile platform to develop connected games for Java-based mobile phones. The mobile version of D3Publisher's hit game Earth Defense Force, already available on Xbox and PlayStation 2, is expected to be available by the end of 2007. D3Publisher will also introduce new mobile connected functionality, as players can battle against alien invaders and jockey for high score fame in an online community while on-the-go.

Electronic Arts Inc. announced the availability of Medal of Honor Airborne, a new World War II mobile game emphasizing airborne invasion in the European Theater. Available now for download to handsets worldwide, Medal of Honor Airborne features the most daring and action-packed World War II battles as contenders engage in fearsome missions to defeat the Nazis. Players enter the war zone as Boyd Travers, a rank-and-file soldier in the 82nd Airborne division who has the opportunity to become extraordinary. Up to eight levels of intense combat challenge players to destroy key objects and eliminate enemies in famous World War II battles such as D-Day and Market Garden.
