The Nokia 6110 Navigator, launched in South Africa earlier this week, has proven its capabilities in one of the toughest environments possible - with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman as they took the 'Long Way Down' from Scotland to the southern most tip of Africa on motorcycle. The journey lasted three months and saw the pair ride 24 000km and cross two continents. With the Nokia 6110 Navigator routing the path, best friends Ewan and Charley defied the elements atop customized BMW motorcycles, crossing the finishing line today in Cape Town.

With the increasing pace of digitalization of television transmission a new acronym has emerged: IPTV, which stands for “television on the basis of the internet protocol”. The GSMA is rebranding the 3GSM World Congress and its sister event in Asia to reflect their role encouraging the development of compelling new mobile services for end-users. Set to take place in Macau in November, the 3GSM World Congress Asia will now be called the Mobile Asia Congress and the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona has been rebranded as the Mobile World Congress. “Both the GSMA and the Congresses are focused on helping operators use the potent platform provided by today’s highly-capable and extensive mobile networks to better serve the many needs and desires of this industry’s almost 3 billion customers,” said Rob Conway, CEO of the GSMA, which owns both the Barcelona and Macau events.

Wireless 2007, the world’s largest event for the Wireless industry, announced that Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO of Research In Motion (RIM) will deliver a keynote address on opening day, Tuesday, March 27. CTIA Wireless takes place March 27-29 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. Mike Lazaridis is replacing Motorola CEO Ed Zander as a keynoter. “Mike Lazaridis is a welcome addition to a stellar keynote line-up this year,” said Robert Mesirow, vice president of operations and show director for CTIA Wireless.
