The wait is over. Nokia announced the five finalists for the 2008 Nokia Mobile Filmmaking Awards which will be screened during the Pangea Day broadcast on May 10th. The winners will be flown to Los Angeles to attend one of Pangea Day's six live broadcast locations on Saturday, May 10th. Pangea Day was created by award-winning documentary filmmaker Jehane Noujaim after winning the prestigious 2006 TED Prize. Together, Noujaim and TED, with support from Nokia, have created Pangea Day to connect people by harnessing the power of film and encouraging people to view the world through someone else's eyes.

Every mobile phone manufacturer appeared to be fully prepared to show their latest and even future line of mobile phones at the Mobile World Congress, except for Motorola. The international press seems unanimous in their conclusion; Motorola are going through a very difficult time and can't seem to overcome their difficulties. Besides the disappointing presentation of the mobile phone offer, hospitality with respect to the (photographing) press also seemed nonexistent. Several press photographers were refused to capture the Motorola products, even still after revealing they belonged to the press. Motorola seemed to have conveniently forgotten that these people travel around half the world to give their precious time for publications.

LG Electronics, a worldwide technology and design leader in mobile communications, will unveil its latest products and future technologies at the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2008 in Barcelona, Spain. At the show LG will officially launch the LG KF700, a new handset with an optimized user interface that makes use of touch technology. Further highlights include two other handsets featuring touch technology: the convenience-oriented LG KF600 and a professional-level camera phone, the LG Viewty. LG designed the LG KF600 and LG KF700 to be amazingly intuitive and natural to use with feed-forward menus and multiple input methods that create an unparalleled user experience.

Nokia is taking The Recording Academy and the 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards 'global and mobile' by offering GRAMMY Award winning music and video programming to Nokia customers around the world. GRAMMY Award-winning music is also planned to be available for download from the Nokia Music Store as well as preloaded on selected Nokia devices in key markets.

The GSM Association (GSMA) announced that film actor, director and Sundance Institute Founder & President, Robert Redford will headline at Mobile Backstage, a special one day Mobile Entertainment conference on Wednesday 13th February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the world’s largest communications industry event. Known as the primary force for 25 years in the nurturing of new cinematic voices and the emergence of independent film as a force in the entertainment industry, Redford and Sundance continue a tradition of exploration and promotion of content delivery on new platforms.

Pepcom, Inc. announced it's taking its signature mobile and wireless press showcase event into the European market! The first annual MobileFocus Global in Barcelona will take place after opening day of the Mobile World Congress trade show. MobileFocus Global will be held at the Avenida Palace hotel in central Barcelona, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 11th. MobileFocus will be the largest media gathering during the show, with hundreds of journalists and analysts expected to attend.

SanDisk Corporation’s launch party on the famous Sunset Strip this past weekend was filled with an exclusive group of celebrities, musicians, SanDisk key clients and the world’s media enjoying VIP treatment in three of the most exclusive venues on Sunset Strip. Lucky guests were treated to exclusive performances from Linkin Park, Common, Z-Trip, Supernatural, Cut Chemist and The Crystal Method, all of whom performed in the top three legendary clubs in Los Angeles. The SanDisk event was the first time the Viper Room, The Roxy and the Key Club were simultaneously reserved for a single event by one company.

During a mixed dealer and press event in London, Samsung officially announced the Samsung G800 camera phone. The high resolution 5 Megapixel Samsung G800 is an enhanced version of the G600. Samsung introduce the new G800 camera phone as a striking digital camera that can also be used as a mobile phone. Samsung has high expectations from the G800 handset. Samsung had hired part of the British Museum for the event that took place in London on Monday night 29th of October.

Cellufun announced their 'Hellofun' celebration; a community event where users can decorate their homepages and dress up their avatars in costumes. HTC gave their third press conference in the Amsterdam Arena in the Netherlands. Mark Moons, Country Manager Benelux and spokesman for HTC Netherlands looked back on the first half of this year, 2007, and compared it with the first half of 2006 regarding the market share they possessed at that time. Canalys data show a market share increase from 11.2 to 14.4%. At the same time it becomes apparent that Windows Mobile as operating system for the smartphone is the undisputed market leader with a total market growth of 17.6%. Resulting in a market leadership in the Netherlands for HTC phones for Windows Mobile Smartphones with a share of 69% (first half of 2007) as is shown in a diagram by Canalys.
