The GSMA, which represents the interests of the mobile communications industry, announce that the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2010 will be held 15-18 February, 2010 at the Fira de Barcelona at Montjuic in Barcelona, Spain. Under the theme of “Vision in Action”, the upcoming MWC 2010 will feature a world-class thought leadership conference, including visionary keynotes and insightful panel discussions; an exhibition with more than 1,300 companies showcasing cutting-edge products and technologies; an awards ceremony highlighting the most innovative mobile solutions and initiatives from around the globe; and a venue that facilitates mobile industry networking and business development opportunities.

Android 2.0 is hot. That is to say; the news about this platform is overwhelming. The first Android-based phones came from Motorola, HTC and Samsung. Android 2 is the most recent version of the popular operating system. The upcoming period is expected to bring us more Android Smartphones. It's common knowledge that HTC is one of the manufacturers developing more than one Android Smartphone based on version 2.0. Unfortunately, dates of when these first HTC Android Smartphones are expected, are not yet known to us. Nor is it clear if current HTC mobile phones can be upgraded to Android 2.0.

Many famous Dutch celebrities, business relations, designers and press guests witnessed the introduction by Samsung Mobile of the new Samsung Lady Phone: the Samsung Allure S. The location of the spectacular introduction; the Amsterdam church called 'the Pigeon', was certainly appreciated. The building had been turned into one huge catwalk with room for guests along both sides to enjoy an evening full of entertainment. To mark the start of the Sony Ericsson Open 2009, ‘Traffic Tennis’ was staged using top-ranked tennis players Venus Williams and Andy Murray who rallied with each other while standing on the roofs of two vehicles, stuck in traffic on Ocean Drive, Miami (United States). Traffic Tennis was set against the signature art deco backdrop of South Beach while onlookers marveled at the sights of tennis being played where they would not naturally expect it. When asked about her experience, world number five, female player; Venus Williams commented: “The Sony Ericsson Open is one of the most entertaining and glamorous tournaments on the calendar.

Pink fans were caught off guard last week when they spotted the singer checking out her own promotion at a local Carphone Warehouse store. Alecia Beth Moore, professionally known as Pink, is fronting the Samsung Pink Rocks! campaign which delivers exclusive mobile content and free downloads to fans via the Samsung Tocco and Pixon cell phones. Pink is preparing for her UK tour, which sees her visiting Glasgow, Birmingham, Belfast, Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool and London throughout April and May 2009.

The first months of a year are always good for product introductions, many introductions. The CES 2009, an event held in Las Vegas which focuses on consumer electronics, has only just closed its doors. According to tradition, it is the first show of the year, mostly held in the first ten days of January. The Mobile World Congress 2009 is the second event of the year that is important enough to focus on. The GSMA Mobile World Congress (formerly 3GSM World Congress) combines the world's largest exhibition for the mobile industry with a stimulating and insightful congress that brings together prominent leaders and personalities from mobile operators and equipment vendors, as well as Internet and entertainment professionals.

The wait is over. Nokia announced the five finalists for the 2008 Nokia Mobile Filmmaking Awards which will be screened during the Pangea Day broadcast on May 10th. The winners will be flown to Los Angeles to attend one of Pangea Day's six live broadcast locations on Saturday, May 10th. Pangea Day was created by award-winning documentary filmmaker Jehane Noujaim after winning the prestigious 2006 TED Prize. Together, Noujaim and TED, with support from Nokia, have created Pangea Day to connect people by harnessing the power of film and encouraging people to view the world through someone else's eyes.

Every mobile phone manufacturer appeared to be fully prepared to show their latest and even future line of mobile phones at the Mobile World Congress, except for Motorola. The international press seems unanimous in their conclusion; Motorola are going through a very difficult time and can't seem to overcome their difficulties. Besides the disappointing presentation of the mobile phone offer, hospitality with respect to the (photographing) press also seemed nonexistent. Several press photographers were refused to capture the Motorola products, even still after revealing they belonged to the press. Motorola seemed to have conveniently forgotten that these people travel around half the world to give their precious time for publications.

LG Electronics, a worldwide technology and design leader in mobile communications, will unveil its latest products and future technologies at the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2008 in Barcelona, Spain. At the show LG will officially launch the LG KF700, a new handset with an optimized user interface that makes use of touch technology. Further highlights include two other handsets featuring touch technology: the convenience-oriented LG KF600 and a professional-level camera phone, the LG Viewty. LG designed the LG KF600 and LG KF700 to be amazingly intuitive and natural to use with feed-forward menus and multiple input methods that create an unparalleled user experience.
