The market for eBook readers seems to have been opened up definitely. The first sale figures in Europe are slowly coming in and almost all the sale figures far surpass the expectations. The American market has already gotten used to reading digital texts, Amazon has being doing good business, but now also lesser known manufacturers such as Astak are making appearances. What this will mean for E-ink readers is not yet clear, but it could mean an early reduction in prices. The CES show displayed several eReaders. The Astak 6-inch Mentor and the Astak 5-inch EZ Reader Pocket Pro are such readers that will also fight for the much-desired market share.

Barnes & Noble announce the launch of nook, the Barnes & Noble eBook reader, which marries innovative technology and sleek minimalist design with access to the company’s digital store of over one million eBooks, newspapers and magazines. Nook android based eBook reader features many industry firsts as it is the first Android-based eBook reader and the first to offer a color touch screen for navigation along with a best-in-class e-Ink display for an immersive, enjoyable e-reading experience. Nook, the Barnes & Noble eBook reader, will be available end of November for just $259.00.

Spring Design will take the wraps off the Alex, the only dual-screen Google Android-based eReader to fully integrate web browsing and reading, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas January 7-10, 2010. The debut of the Alex dual screen Reader took place at the press-only Lunch at Piero’s media and innovator event January 8 where the company has demonstrate Alex’s full browser capabilities and patented dual screen interaction technology, the Duet Navigator that enables Alex users to search the Internet on the 3.5” color browser LCD screen while displaying books, periodicals and even personal, educational and corporate documents on the Alex’s paper-like 6” EPD screen.

Delivering on its goal of getting the newest edition of its Reader family into customers’ hands for the holidays, Sony announced the Reader Daily Edition is now shipping. Pre-orders placed on via the SonyStyle website through December 20 have begun arriving to customers. The Sony Reader Daily Edition has garnered intense interest since its unveiling earlier this year, with pre-orders exceeding expectations. The device gives consumers wireless access to Sony’s Reader Store from most of the US, via AT&T’s 3G mobile broadband network. Book lovers can browse, purchase and download books as well as select newspapers on the go.

Isobar interactive agency Molecular, Inc. announced its collaboration with Nikon to create an innovative mobile applications for the Apple iPhone handset that provides people with quick, easy access to both educational and inspirational photo information right from their mobile phone. The free software application, called Nikon Learn & Explore is available for download. Molecular was responsible for design, implementation and QA of the Learn & Explore app, as well as all modifications to the Content Management System. Molecular has been working with Nikon USA since 2007 and is the agency responsible for creating Nikon’s current website.

Spring Design announce Alex, the first e-book based on Google Android featuring full browser capabilities and patented dual screen interaction technology, the Duet Navigator. The Alex livens up text with multimedia links, adding a new dimension to the reading experience and potentially creating a whole new industry for secondary publications that supplement and enhance original text. Macworld has announced the release of “Macworld’s iPhone and iPod Touch Superguide, Third Edition,” the latest addition to its popular Superguide series. This book is one of the very first Apple iPhone guides to be completely updated for the iPhone 3.0 software update and the Apple iPhone 3GS that were released last month. In this 172-page book, Macworld editors offer the latest advice and top tips for mastering the first generation Apple iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the Apple iPod touch. Macworld released the latest version of the iPhone Superguide just four months ago. But after the release of the new 3.0 software update, and the iPhone 3GS, Macworld’s editors went right back to work and updated the book cover to cover.

Amazon posted its Best Books for 2007 listings, and in the Best Books of 2007 Top 10 Editors’ Picks: Computers & Internet category, The iPhone Book - co-authored by Scott Kelby and Terry White - took the #1 spot. Additionally, Scott’s The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Book for Digital Photographers and The Adobe Photoshop CS3 Book for Digital Photographers both found themselves on the Best Books for 2007 in the Customers’ Favorites: Computers & Internet list, ranked at #2 and #4 respectively.
