Apple announced that Daniel Cooperman, senior vice president, general counsel and secretary at Oracle Corporation, will join Apple as the company’s senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, reporting to Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Cooperman will begin at Apple on November 1. “Dan will be an excellent addition to our team and will fit right into Apple’s fast paced culture,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Dan is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in securities compliance, intellectual property, litigation and corporate governance."

Apple has discovered that many of the unauthorized iPhone unlocking programs available on the Internet cause irreparable damage to the iPhone's software, which will likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iPhone software update is installed. Apple plans to release the next Apple iPhone software update, containing many new features including the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, later this week.

As European deals for Apple's iPhone are announced, the chosen operators will be well advised to learn from the experiences of AT&T Wireless in the US when it comes to billing users, says Analysys the global advisers on telecoms, IT and media. The kick to mobile data usage given by the iPhone in the US market resulted in some subscribers receiving bills that were very large physically - in extreme cases running to hundreds of pages - detailing every mobile data event. AT&T quickly changed the way bills were provided - issuing summaries rather than full details by default - but the issue highlights the mismatch that often exists between users' requirements of bills and operators' perceptions of what users want.

WAAV, the first provider of in-vehicle broadband Internet, has announced that the new Apple iPod Touch will be compatible with the AirBox line of mobile cellular routers. With an AirBox, Apple iPod Touch users will be able to browse the web and download iTunes music while in their moving car. Apple iPhone users have been using AirBoxes to access data features while in the middle of a call. Since the AirBox provides a Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple iPhone users can use Google Maps to get directions while traveling, check the status of an important email, or exchange photos, all through Wi-Fi while speaking on a voice call. In addition, the AirBox runs at broadband speeds as compared to slower EDGE speeds.
