T he first dual-touchscreen smartphone, the Kyocera Echo, has been launched in all Sprint retail channels, including the on web and via telesales. The innovative Android device will be available for $199.99 (excluding taxes) with a new two-year service agreement or eligible upgrade. Featuring two high-resolution 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen displays connected by a durable, patent-pending Super Copper Alloy “pivot hinge,” the Kyocera Echo smartphone allows users to use both displays independently, side-by-side or combined to form a tablet-like experience with 800 x 960 pixels in a 4.7-inch (diagonal) display. The Kyocera Echo device also folds up easily into a pocket-friendly single-screen configuration.

The Kyocera Android Developer Program, supporting development of dual-screen-compatible apps for the Kyocera Echo smartphone, continues to expand. Users can go to the Echo By Kyocera website and find direct links to many of the growing universe of compatible apps. Several developers are planning to offer special promotions for their compatible applications, which will be featured on the site.

Operating on the Android 2.2 operating system, the Kyocera Echo smartphone gives users access to more than 150,000 apps in Android Market. The device utilizes Sprint's nationwide 3G network and Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g); is Wi-Fi hotspot capable, supporting up to five devices; features a 5 megapixel camera with flash, autofocus and digital zoom plus 720 HD camcorder; supports corporate (Exchange ActiveSync) and personal (POP & IMAP) email, IM (Google Talk), and text messaging; and has 1 GB of onboard memory with an 8GB microSD card for the external memory card slot, which supports cards up to 32GB.
