S amsung announced at the MWC 2011 in Barcelona the updated Bada 2.0 platform. The new and improved version of Samsungs Smartphone operating system includes support for Near Field Communication, HTML 5 and Wholesale Applications Community - as well as voice recognition and multitasking. Near Field Communication allows a Smartphone to read information off of everyday objects like stickers and posters which are embedded with NFC chips, meaning that mobile payments can be made using the Smartphone in retail outlets. Samsung has improved the user experience on the Bada Smartphone platform with a personalized lock-screen, layout management and 3D sound.

Samsung Bada 2 Smartphone platform comes with a new and improved Software Development Kit (SDK), opening up the Bada platform to more developers working across different operating systems. The new Bada SDK includes additional features such as an advanced code analyzer as well as a faster simulator, allowing developers more insight into the performance of their Bada 2.0 apps. The Samsung Bada 2.0 announcement was made during the Bada Developer Day, which was attended by over 200 developers from around the world. The Samsung Bada Developer Day was held as part of the ADC (Application Developer Conference) at App Planet, an event hosted at Mobile World Congress in Spain.

The Samsung Bada Developer Day in Spain marked the anniversary of the launch of the first Bada Smartphone, the Samsung Wave, while serving as an opportunity to look at the past year's results. Bada Apps developers were told about how Samsung Apps (Samsung's application store) has grown with the success of the Samsung Wave Smartphones. The total number of Bada apps download worldwide is shortly expected to surpass 80 million, demonstrating the rising popularity of Samsung Bada apps among Smartphone users.
