T he South-Korean cell phone market is often ahead in terms of innovations. Recently we ran into a Samsung SCH-W960 smartphone. At first glance it doesn’t seem very special if it weren’t for the fact that this Samsung phone is actually the first Samsung 3D smartphone. Unfortunately it is only destined for South Korea right now, but 3D is being developed world-wide, so we won’t be surprised if we will soon run into a Samsung 3D phone in the rest of the world. The first information that we received seems to point to a function in the Samsung W960 smartphone that makes it possible to convert video to 3D with the push of one button.

Samsung 3D smartphone converts 2D videos to 3D

We also saw the conversion of 2D video content to 3D in the new series of Samsung televisions that were presented during the Consumer Electronics Show 2010 in Las Vegas. The Samsung SCH-W960 3D smartphone is equipped with a 3.2-inch AMOLED touch screen and a 3 Megapixel digital camera met Xenon flash. This Samsung 3D smartphone offers a ‘mere' 3 million pixels resolution, for mobile photography this is more than enough.

Through a special hardware technology, the display can be adjusted so that it is not necessary to use special 3D glasses to be able to view Samsung W960 3D content. This year, Samsung 3D TV will be making its first appearance in the Samsung smartphones. It's actually unbelievable how quickly the different innovations are integrated into the smartphones. The smartphone is gradually becoming a defining factor in daily life. It is facilitating the connection with social media, business and private communication, and soon also 3D experience and many other possibilities and functions.

Samsung 3D smartphone requires large battery capacity

3D smartphones are an interesting development. We wonder if we will soon be running into the limit in terms of battery capacity. The conversion of 2D to 3D is a heavy application, and 3D viewing requires quite a lot of energy. Additionally, the desire to constantly be connected to the 'world' and the smartphone has quite a heavy task...We will keep a watch out for the developments, and when we receive more news about Samsung's 3D plans in terms of 3D smartphones, we will quickly get back to this topic.
