T o mark the start of the Sony Ericsson Open 2009, ‘Traffic Tennis’ was staged using top-ranked tennis players Venus Williams and Andy Murray who rallied with each other while standing on the roofs of two vehicles, stuck in traffic on Ocean Drive, Miami (United States). Traffic Tennis was set against the signature art deco backdrop of South Beach while onlookers marveled at the sights of tennis being played where they would not naturally expect it. When asked about her experience, world number five, female player; Venus Williams commented: “The Sony Ericsson Open is one of the most entertaining and glamorous tournaments on the calendar.

The stunt involved modifying two Mercedes-Benz SUVs with platforms and safety harnesses by a stunt rigger to the roof of the cars.  The game was played on Ocean Drive to capture the imagination of South Beach and set against the backdrop of a world renowned art deco architecture hub to create an iconic image that captures the essence of 2009 Sony Ericsson Open; entertainment, glamour and innovation.

After a fantastic 2008 tournament with Nikolay Davydenko and Serena Williams both triumphing; 2009 is set to be another fantastic event as Serena attempts a record-breaking sixth crown. The 2009 Sony Ericsson Open will be played March 25 - April 5 at Crandon Park, Miami and features the world's top men and women tennis players battling for a total prize fund of US$9 million.

The 2009 Sony Ericsson Open will be played March 25- April 5 at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Miami. The 12-day combined event, founded by Butch Buchholz in 1985, is owned by IMG. The Sony Ericsson Open is one of nine ATP Masters Series events on the ATP calendar, a top tier event on the Sony Ericsson WTA TOUR calendar, and features the top men's and women's tennis players in the world.   In 2008, Nikolay Davydenko defeated Rafael Nadal for his first Sony Ericsson Open title, while Serena Williams defeated Jelena Jankovic to win her record-tying fifth title in Miami.
