T he Sony Ericsson booth at the Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona was set up quite well-structured. In a semi-circle, the current and newest cell phones and accessories are showcased. Within this half-circle, there is room to call attention to several services, such as the Entertainment Unlimited service. One of the highlights for Sony Ericsson during the GSMA 2009 was the introduction of the Sony Ericsson Idou, a 12 Megapixel Cybershot handset. Exactly one year ago, during last year's Mobile World Congress, Sony Ericsson announced a new platform which would enable higher resolutions up to 12 Megapixels, among other things.

Sony Ericsson Idou - 12 Megapixel Cybershot handset

The new Sony Ericsson Idou has an impressive high resolution, and at this time and date even the world's first camera phone with 12 megapixel of resolution. These are very impressive specifications, although we will only truly be convinced after the device has been tested by us. As soon as a full production sample becomes available, we will publish an extensive Sony Ericsson Idou review followed by a high resolution photo gallery.

The name 'Idou' is not final yet; the final name will be announced somewhere in the second quarter of this year. That is also the expected availability date of the Sony Ericsson Idou. The Idou from Sony-Ericsson will possibly be the start of mobile visual communication, which is a concept Sony Ericsson is starting with the Entertainment Unlimited. For many mobile phone users, very interesting possibilities will become available with high resolution digital photography and intuitive touchscreen features with 16:9 image reproduction in the palm of your hand.

Additionally, new applications based on the Symbian Foundation operating system, are expected to become available online. And the large collection PlayNow content will complete mobile phones such as the Sony Ericsson Idou CyberShot camera phone, at which their multimedia and visual features will be used to the fullest.

Sony-Ericsson cell phone services

Also for Sony Ericsson, the emphasis is put more and more on services. This is quite logical too, while it is time to make some money. It is not the hardware that offers the big chances in terms of revenue and market share. It's offering the ultimate mobile experience that is the biggest challenge, and by linking many multimedia services on a 'global' level, with a mobile 'SE' society as the ultimate goal; it should be possible to get the most out of all the investments of the past few years. It's also a challenge to keep the technical part on a comprehensible level; otherwise you're bound to lose one or two generations.
