D uring a Samsung press conference on a sunny day in The Netherlands, we were given the opportunity to shoot some sample photos with the Samsung U900 mobile phone (Also known as Samsung Soul). The press conference was held at the castle 'De Hooge Vuursche in Baarn. Despite the limited time we had to take the Samsung U900 on a stroll to shoot some sample photos, we were still able to get a good impression of the photo quality, the functions and the operation of the Samsung U900. The Samsung U900 main features are the innovative touchpad monitor, fast 7.2 Mbps HSDPA connection availability, a 5 Megapixel digital camera with auto focus, face detection and (electronic) image stabilization.

Samsung Design Phone

The Samsung U900 Soul is a designer phone with compact dimensions of 4.1x1.9x 0.5 inches and a weight of 110 grams. The most innovative feature of the Samsung U900 is its touchpad monitor placed right below the common monitor. The icons shown on the touchpad monitor change whilst navigating through the menu and are operated by touch. The U900 touchpad responses both quickly and accurately, but its narrow size will inevitably make you touch the wrong icon at times. Despite this small restriction, the touchpad monitor is very pleasant to use.

Samsung U900 Mobile Photography

Unfortunately the Samsung U900 shows yet again that photo-taking with a mobile phone is not yet where we would like it to be; at the same level as that of a compact digital camera. The shutter lag is annoying within mobile photography and remains to annoy. Fast moving objects can't be captured correctly due to the shutter lag. It took the compact camera a few years to get rid of this lag so even with today's enhanced technological possibilities I am afraid that mobile photography will continue to suffer for some time before the release lag will have disappeared here too. Take a look at the Samsung U900 Photo Gallery.
