N uance Communications, a provider of speech and imaging solutions, announced that Nuance Voice Control, a speech-based mobile search and messaging service, is now available in French. Rogers Wireless, Canada’s largest wireless voice and data communications service provider, will be the first to offer Nuance Voice Control in French beginning in April 2008.

Driven entirely by natural voice commands, Nuance Voice Control speech-enables mobile device features and applications such as creating calendar entries, dialing a contact, playing music, obtaining driving directions, and searching the Web for business listings, news, weather, stock quotes, sport scores and more. Users can also dictate email and text messages and have them instantly transcribed on their smartphone, ready to send. Rogers will initially offer the French-based service for select BlackBerry devices, including the BlackBerry 8800, 8310 and 8110. The service will also be launched in French for Windows Mobile devices in the coming weeks.
