I t has been quite some time since the Nokia N95 mobile phone was put on the market. During the Mobile World Congress 2008 in Barcelona the successor was already announced: the Nokia N96. In the meantime Nokia have put an 8GB version of the Nokia N95 on the market. After its appearance it turned out that the N95 had some minus points. The battery ran out too quickly, the RAM memory was full in no-time and the GPS navigation wasn't always too precise.

Nokia N95 8GB

The Nokia N95 8GB, also known as the Nokia N95-2 is supposed to have overcome all these issues. The monitor has been enhanced from 2.6-inch to 2.8-inch, RAM memory has been enhanced from 64MB to 128MB and a 1200mAh battery has to enable longer talk-times and standby times. The cover of the lens had to disappear though. There is no memory card slot available on the Nokia N95 8GB and with the availability of an 8GB memory you won't need an extra card anyway.

 

 

Las Vegas photo gallery

We can be brief about the picture quality; it is excellent. The images speak for themselves. During the time we were testing the camera, we had a trip planned to the CES in Las Vegas. This was a perfect time to take the Nokia 8GB N95 with us to the States. The environments of Las Vegas are very nice to take test pictures. The camera performed well, especially in good light circumstances. The colors are bright and the captured pictures are clear. When shooting in badly lit circumstances the quality drops dramatically and we notice the shortcomings of the sensor and the pixel sensitivity. The usual shortcomings of today's mobile photography.

 

 

Nokia N95 8GB Test
The design of the Nokia N95 8GB hasn't been altered that much compared to the N95. The Nokia N95-2 is available in an elegant black colour. Compared to the silver-coloured Nokia N95, the N95-2 feels a lot more solid. The lens cover has disappeared. Nokia had better kept it because chances you get your fingers on the lens when reaching for the phone to make a call, are huge. Thankfully the double slider system remained the same so operating the multimedia functions is carried out separately from operating the phone.
