i Dictate announced that it will offer phone dictation service to purchasers of the iPhone. iDictate utilizes a blend of Internet technology and human interaction that has dramatically changed the way business, legal and medical professionals obtain transcribed documents on a global scale. “The Apple iPhone has the potential to raise the level of technology that each of us carries every day,” said Kevin Almeroth, associate director of UC Santa Barbara’s Center for Information Technology and Society. According to company founder Lee Dorfman, "The iDictate service turns the Apple iPhone into an awesome go-anywhere dictation device with the finished documents promptly emailed back to the user for final editing."

Dorfman cites cost, convenience, and speed as the main benefits of the service. Transcription fees start at slightly more than a penny per word, with no monthly charges. Rush service is available for an extra charge. The cost is substantially less than maintaining a secretarial staff, and far more practical than taking a typist with you wherever you go. According to Dorfman, the company's transcription turn-around time is superior to conventional alternatives, and the service is available 24x7, 365 days a year.

Mobile phone dictation service for iPhone

Carol Ruth Silver, a well-known San Francisco attorney, praises iDictate. "They have saved me thousands of dollars in typing costs and have come to my rescue many times when I was on deadline," she says. Ms. Silver personally uses the service to dictate letters and create legal documents at all hours of the day and night.
