Amnesty International - Amnesty wireless
That's been the philosophy at Working Assets for more than 20 years. Working Assets is the progressive phone company that uses network services provided by a national major carrier and combines world-class technology with a world-conscious outlook. Since 1985, Working Assets customers have generated more than $50 million in donations to nonprofits working for peace, equality, education and the environment-at no additional cost to them. Amnesty Wireless works the same way. From calls members already make, 10 percent of their charges will automatically go to Amnesty International, without costing subscribers anything extra. That means whenever customers dial, they help free prisoners of conscience, end capital punishment and support rights for women around the world.

"Cell phones have made the world more mobile. Now there's a cell phone that makes the world more free," said Working Assets CEO Laura Scher. "Both our organizations believe that universal recognition of universal human rights is an attainable goal. And with an effective, convenient service like Amnesty Wireless, it's now more attainable than ever." Amnesty Wireless members who want to do even more can find in each month's bill Citizen Action alerts, informing them of urgent human-rights issues that need their support. They can choose to send a well-argued letter to a targeted decision-maker. Or make a call from their cell phone and speak out for their beliefs. Members can make up to 30 minutes of these calls each month-absolutely free. Amnesty Wireless members can also call each other, any time, for free. New customers will receive a free cool camera phone as well as free activation and shipping. Amnesty Wireless will even buy out subscribers' current cell-phone contracts, up to a $175 credit.
